El Castanyer de les 9 branques (The 9-branch chestnut tree) is one of the best known trees of Montseny. Its age, its bearing and its chandelier shape make it a truly spectacular tree. Two of its largest branches were broken off by strong winds in the year 1987 and the resulting crack made its originality still more magnificent.

It is surrounded by stoic oak trees of a similar age in the same meadow, forming a clearing in the middle of an extremely beautiful forest

In the year 2012 El Castanyer de les 9 branques was chosen as an identifying feature for the new Viladrau village coat of arms.
